President Hollande congratulates Newly-elected President Hassan of Somalia

Mr. President,
 
Following your election as the president of Somalia, I am pleased to send you my very
hearty and warm congratulations.
Your country is currently undergoing a crucial period for its future, after more than
twenty years of a conflict which lead to privations and exile. The progress achieved so far has
rebuilt real hope for the reestablishment of peace and the rule of Law in Somalia, to which all
Somalis aspire.
In this context, I hope that all the Somali authorities will take up their responsibilities
in order to promote peace, democratic governance and the protection of human rights, as well
as economic development. Efforts towards national reconciliation are necessary for the
establishment of sustainable democratic institutions.
As you set out on your mandate, be ensured that France will be a loyal partner,
attentive to your concerns and committed to spread about your expectations and your efforts
in all the international areas.
I wish you all the best in your mission at the service of your country and the people of
Somalia. Please accept, Mr. President, the assurances of my highest consideration.
